Five Star Bank has partnered with The Teacher's Desk to bring free books to our local communities. As part of the "Five Star Reader" initiative, eight Five Star Bank locations throughout our Western and Central New York footprint have been designated to house a bookshelf full of free books for local residents to enjoy. Participating locations include:
  • Auburn
  • Bath
  • City Gate
  • Elmira
  • Elmwood Crossing
  • Naples
  • Salamanca
  • Seneca Street

The Bank has historically provided grant funding to support The Teacher's Desk's A Good Start program, supplying children with a backpack full of school supplies including pencils, pens, crayons, glue sticks, binders, a dray erase board and other basics to give them A Good Start on their educational journey. Students' families shouldn't have to choose between basic essentials and school supplies. The Teacher's Desk's programs are designed to provide a warm welcome to students and lets their families know that the community cares about them and their academic success.

Visit one of the locations listed above and find an age-appropriate book to bring home to your young learners!

ABOUT THE TEACHER'S DESK
The Teacher’s Desk is the store in Buffalo, NY where teachers shop free for students in need. Established in 2011, the store distributes $6 million in free school supplies and books annually to 6,000 teachers working in economically disadvantaged schools. Their efforts directly impact 150,000 students at 250 schools in eight Western NY counties.

The Teacher’s Desk’s three-part mission is to give disadvantaged students in underserved schools in Western New York access to the supplies necessary to succeed in the classroom; to provide encouragement to area teachers; and give purpose to community members through volunteerism.
