Five Star Community Involvement







Today’s commitment to a stronger tomorrow.

At Five Star Bank, we have a responsibility to help support the success of communities we serve. Just like you, we’re proud to call Western New York home. And we’re committed to strengthening our communities through volunteer activities, charitable investments, and need-based product offerings.

Volunteering

Through our S.T.A.R. Volunteers Program, our employees have the option to work one day, fully-paid, volunteering in the community of their home or branch. Organizations, events, and initiatives our employees have supported include Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, and the United Way Day of Caring. In addition, our employees volunteer for events at local schools, Rotary clubs, and Chambers of Commerce across our footprint. This employee-driven volunteer effort has resulted in more than 6,500 hours of volunteer support since its inception in 2007.

Our employees support more than 400 different community and professional organizations as volunteers, trustees, and directors. These employees provide hundreds of hours of volunteer service every year, above and beyond S.T.A.R. Program volunteer hours.

Charitable Investments

Five Star Bank is proud to support hundreds of organizations throughout Western New York. We make significant investments through various donations and community sponsorships across our geographic footprint including: 
  • Donations via a community-wide United Way challenge grant
  • Donations to Community Action Groups
  • Contributions to agencies providing housing services
  • Food bank donations
  • Donations to organizations providing educational scholarships
  • And many more…

Charitable Request Guidelines

Five Star Bank accepts grant applications continuously throughout the year. Prior to submitting a grant application, we strongly encourage all applicants to review the eligibility guidelines below: 
  • Tax Exempt Status/501(c) 3
  • Need for private financial support
  • An organization may apply no more than once a year
  • Relevance to the Five Star Bank Focus Areas
    • Affordable Housing
    • Economic Development
    • Neighborhood Revitalization & Stabilization
    • Community Services Targeted to Low-to-Moderate Income (“LMI”) Individuals
Five Star Bank is dedicated to empowering individuals and neighborhoods by investing in these focus areas. All grant applications must be submitted to Karla J.L. Gadley at KJGadley@five-starbank.com, using the attached form

Five Star Bank’s Contribution Committee meets monthly to formally review grant applications. While we will provide regular communication during the process, you should allow up to 60 days from the date of grant submission for a final decision on funding.

Five Star Bank also accepts sponsorship and donation requests for community events, festivals, youth sporting events, school functions, etc. to support the activities in the communities we serve. If you have a request of this nature, please visit a local Five Star Bank branch and talk with the Branch Manager.
 

Product Offerings, Community Development and Financial Literacy

Five Star Bank’s comprehensive product offerings include several products tailored to meet the needs of the unbanked, underbanked and/or low-to-moderate income individuals in the communities we serve, including programs to assist home buyers with grants and savings programs.
Access to a bank account provides households with the opportunity to conduct basic financial transactions, save for emergency and long-term security needs, build credit history, and access credit on fair and affordable terms. 

In furtherance of this effort, we have a Community Development Officer who is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and providing strategic direction for Five Star Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) related programming and outreach programs throughout the Bank’s footprint. In addition, two Community Development Loan Officers play an important role in the execution of the Bank’s CRA program to promote financial literacy workshops and increase access to residential loans and low-cost deposit product opportunities in LMI neighborhoods.
